Why do I enjoy whisky but I think vodka taste harsh

I am no alcohol expert but to my understanding vodka is supposed to be the a flavorless liquor while whisky for those who have never had it is considered harsher typically but after having whisky as my go to liquor for a couple years every time I taste vodka it makes me want to gag while whisky seems very rich and enjoyable. Is this just due to what my tastebuds have become accustomed to?
