Mamajuana

Hello. Not sure if this is the right sub for this, but just wanted to ask regardless. I was in the Dominican Republic recently and tried mamajuana. It was great. I wanted to recreate it, so I ordered a kit on amazon with the spices and all. I have a couple questions about making it though.

Ive heard people say you need to rinse it with alcohol before you drink it, since the spices on the first go are too sour / tart or whatever else. Some people say that you need to just pour some liquor in it, let it sit, and then drain it before you make mamajuana. Is this true for the pre-made kits from amazon? Or has this process been done already and they are good to go?

What is thye ratio? My understanding is it’s rum + wine + honey, but the premade instructions that came with the kit only mention rum and honey. This doesnt seem right to me. Google has different answers from follow the instructions, to 1 part rum and 1 part wine + honey to taste, to 2 parts rum and 1 part wine and 1 part honey. Which is right, or which is a good starting point to experiment more with?

I havent made this before, but loved it when I tried it. Again, sorry if wrong sub, but I would appreciate any advice from people who have made it in the past.
