Review: 2021 The Tease Cabernet Sauvignon by Strip House

So, interesting story behind this wine. It’s made by our friends at Boisset’s Raymond in Napa Valley, but you can’t buy it there: It’s an exclusive to the Strip House steakhouse, which has locations in New York and Las Vegas.

The wine is a 100% cabernet sauvignon “sourced from two adjacent vineyards in the heart of the Rutherford AVA in the distinctive soil composition of the valley floor. The lack of rain and lowering temperatures during this harvest season resulted in small berries packed with intense flavor and good acid retention. The wine was macerated for an extended period of 19 months in 43% new French oak, which contributes to its exceptional quality.”

They sent us a sample, but no steak to go along with it… nor the “1000” Layer Goose Fat Potatoes nor the 24 Layer Chocolate Cake. We drank it all the same and generated these words to describe it:

The wine immediately recalls many other big Raymond cabernets I’ve encountered — thick and unctuous, its pure cassis core layered with notes of chocolate sauce. The tannin has been whipped out of this relatively young wine in short order: It’s ready to drink now. Secondary elements here are all in service to the cassis and chocolate: cherry and plum, mainly, with vague hints of mint. It’s definitely something that feels designed to pair with a thick steak doused in Bordelaise sauce — which, it turns out, you can add as an extra to your dry-aged ribeye at Strip House for 7 bucks.

I say go for it.
