feverish for days after drinking alcohol

This has happened 3 times now since last November – I drink (very minimally, most recently it was one drink and has not been more than 4), and then the morning after I wake up with a hangover, and by that evening I’ve got a temperature of 39 degrees which lasts for 3/4 days. Can’t sleep, can’t keep any food down, just generally feel shit. I’m planning on stopping drinking because of this, but I was wondering if this is a common thing or does anyone else experience this?
