Did I unknowingly buy counterfeit liquor?

I recently bought a bottle of Disaronno amaretto in a foreign country. I don’t have it where I live, so I thought it was finally a chance to taste this liqueur.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it tastes fine. But it doesn’t taste like almonds at all… It kinda tastes kinda like cherry. Not the actual fruit, more akin to artificial cherry flavored candy

So, is that just how amaretto is supposed to taste? Or did I buy counterfeit liquor when I was abroad?
