Review: Jermann 2022 Pinot Grigio and 2021 Dreams
Jermann’s wines are Italian, not German, though I can understand the confusion: Even the font the company uses is Germanesque in design. Today we analyze two white wines from this Venezia-based winery, which you’ll find just miles away from Italy’s border with Slovenia.
Thoughts follow.
2022 Jermann Pinot Grigio – A lightly sweet expression of pinot grigio, notes of peaches and orange blossoms dominate a creamy palate that eventually folds in sharper citrus tones and a spray of white and pink flowers. Baked apple elements push on to a lasting, lightly bitter conclusion where some mineral elements emerge. Versatile but best as a tempering agent for a spicy meal. B+ / $35
2021 Jermann Dreams Bianco Venezia Giulia IGT – Aka “Where Dreams Have No End,” this is a chardonnay that would easily pass for something from California. Crisp apple pairs with ample vanilla and a pinch of spice, followed by coconut, guava, and a dusting of white flowers across an enveloping, creamy body. The influence of oak is never overwhelming, allowing a hint of nutmeg to show itself on the finish. A / $85
