does sake go bad? if it does how can i tell?

i’ve never had sake so idk how it should look, taste or smell. i have this hello kitty sake i bought a few years ago that’s been stored in the basement and forgotten about until just now. can i still drink it? will i get sick from drinking it if it’s gone bad?
