Questions Regarding Possible Alcohol Intolerance

Hello,

I am a 58 yr old white male that has, for the last 5+ years, been experiencing alcohol intolerance. Doesn’t matter the alcohol (beer, wine, spirits). I’ve seen liver doctors (liver enzymes and CT scan were fine), a neurologist (MRI fine) and a Concierge Doctor (really concentrated on gut health/allergies/etc).

I can drink one to two drinks without feeling any effects. But more than two, I have bad headaches and nausea…not that evening but typically the next day beginning at 11a-12p. The headaches/nausea continue for more than 24 hours after I stopped drinking the prior evening. It happens every time that I drink more than two drinks. Symptoms are consistent: lots of yawning, then a lot of burping. The headache and nausea kick in after an hour or so of the yawning/burping.

Initially, I quit drinking for 60 days to see if I needed to perhaps give my liver a break (that didn’t help). I feel that it is dehydration related but the one glass of water between drinks rule doesn’t work. I’ve tried taking the “pre-drink drinks” that companies sell to combat acetlyde (sp?) but nothing helps.

I work out 6 days a week including yoga, volleyball and lifting. I do take supplements (magnesium, fish oil, liver supplements). I also take 7.5 mg of ambien/night but I’ve only been taking ambien after the alcohol intolerance reared it’s ugly head.

Is there anyone out there that has experienced many of the same traits? I appreciate any feedback that you could provide. Many thanks
