I made a syrup that makes a decent fake espresso martini

I expected to need a couple attempts to find the right balance of sugar and coffee, but I got it on the first try.

By volume I used two parts water, and a part each of sugar and instant coffee.

Dissolve sugar in water over low any necessary heat. Once the sugar is dissolved, kill the heat and dissolve instant coffee in the syrup. You can use any kind of sugar you want, I used some dark brown sugar, and it was a success.

The only thing I highly recommend is that you use an instant coffee called gold. It’s not a specific brand, but these styles tend to be made of arabica coffee, rather than robusta which is needs a lot of milk and sugar I have to drink that. The coffee taste is on the intense side, so you might want to use a little less than I did.

Once your syrup is cold, you can shake it up with an equal amnount of vodka to have a nice faux espresso martini. The drink also works decently as a shot.

If your friends like coffee, this drink could make your party last all night, because there is a considerable amount of caffeine in the syrup. Actually I think i got a bigger buzz from the caffeine than the alcohol, so I might use some decaf in the syrup. If it isn’t the time to party, you can also mix the syrup with some water or milk for a nice iced coffee-like drink.
