Made my first Amaretto Sour recipe and I’ve never felt drunk like this before…
Hey! I’m 40 and somewhat a professional drinker (binge drink several times a week, starting with a few beers then move onto vodka). Been doing this my entire adult life.
Had a few Amaretto sours in the pub before (which they make using basic lemon and lime mix and amaretto) and today i thought I’d go the whole hog and try making the cocktail from scratch….
I’m not american, Im from Scotland and the recipe is in ounces, so I converted the best I could figure out how and went for it as follows:
Jeffrey Morgenthaler Amaretto Sour recipe 11/2 oz amaretto = 0.688 cups = 162ml 3/4 oz cask proof bourbon = 22ml 1 oz lemon squeezed = 30ml 1 teaspoon rich simple syrup 1/2 oz egg white = 15ml Garnish: lemon twist, 2 brandied cherries
Add amaretto, bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white to a shaker and dry-shake (no ice) for 15 seconds.
Had enough for two drinks of this, but i felt hammered halfway through the first. I feel like maybe my syrup mix (1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water, cold mixed with a blender) led me to having a massive sugar spike and made feel this way. I honestly felt like I was coming up off cocaine or ecstacy (and trust me ive tried both). Six hours later and I still feel away with it though, how the hell is this possible!
I’ve never felt like this when drunk before. I’m not an Amaretto drinker at all, but feel like the issue is that I’ve maybe overdosed on sugar somehow? I drink vodka and coke regularly, so am used to a lot of sugar and caffeine lol.
Had a few beers since only, but ive been feeling drunk but weird the whole time and cannot explain it. Any ideas!
