Why is this hangover worse?

I’m usually a straight whiskey drinker but sometimes I switch it up. Either rum or vodka. I have to say that Sailor Jerry’s for some reason gives me a way worse hangover than my favorite whiskey Canadian hunter. Tito’s vodka also fucks me up the next day. My protocol for limiting a hangover is to eat a meal after drinking and then I take a strong migraine pill. Works 99% of the time. I read that the darker the alcohol the worse the hangover. The dark alcohol I drink doesn’t seem any darker than the other. Is there any truth to these hangovers being worse? Or am I just making it up? Cause I could just be drinking on an empty stomach and forgetting the migraine pill. Those are the common variables. Or I drink more than I think.
