I think I’ve found the best Old Fashioned in the UK

I travel for work and over the last 6 years I’ve visited 750 locations around the UK. The Old Fashioned is my favourite cocktail and I’ve been on a search for the best one.

I’m a sucker for the classic bourbon whiskey base with angostura bitters but have tried all the weird and wonderful variations that are available. Many using Scotch, rum and even absinthe with added twists such as salted caramel, popcorn and cherry liquer.

Tonight I visited a small bar in Manchester, UK named Schofield’s and sampled a classic concoction consisting of, Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Angostura Bitters and Sugar. Served with a large clear ice cube and an orange garnish. Though simple and less adventurous than many of its competitors it really stood out as possibly my favourite. I may have to try some of the other high ranking ones very soon so I can be sure as it has been a while since I’ve tried them.

Obviously this is all personal preference and people may argue that anyone can create this simple cocktail from the ingredients listed but I believe there is a subtle science to the preparation of this king of tipples.
