Is drinking okay at all anymore?
I’m so tired of the discourse online surrounding alcohol. If you count your drinks, you have a problem. If you drink every weekend, you might be an alcoholic. If you don’t drink that often but binge when you do drink you could be an alcoholic too. If you like drinking you have a problem. If you like to get drunk you have a problem. People who don’t have a problem have a drink and don’t think about how much they’re drinking or about getting buzzed! If you drink to feel a buzz you have a problem. If you’re thinking about quitting, you probably have a problem. If you analyze your drinking you have a problem because people who do that end up becoming alcoholics. They’re afraid of having to quit, and that means you have a problem. Participating in “dry january”? Maybe it means its time to quit drinking, after all people who take months off usually have a problem. If you have taken an “am I an alcoholic?” quiz online, that’s a sign that you need to stop drinking because “normal” people don’t do that or think about it. If you used to have bad habits but change them and drink less, you are delaying the issue and will inevitably slide back to your old ways and become worse and be an alcoholic. It’s like there’s no in between. Can I just live?! Did any of you have a crisis of self around drinking? Do you enjoy drinking? How much do you drink? There is such a thing as anxiety as well, what if I just have anxiety about drinking in a healthy way?
