Cheap vs expensive vodka/gin. Is there really much difference?

I’m not a vodka/gin drinker, hence why I’m asking.

If I get a tasty enough mixer, does it matter if I get the cheapest vodka/gin? Like supermarket brand. How much does it affect taste? How does it affect ease of consumption?
