I drink to enjoy the drink
Before I even started drinking, I decided I never wanted to get drunk and would learn my limit. Never liked feeling like I wasn’t in total control and knew alcoholism ran in the family (my father had previously revieled that he went through AA after my mother left him). First experience was when I was 20 (I believe) and my old brother and his buddies thought it with be funny to hand me a cup of some habip store wine and a cheap whiskey with a black label and no branding whatsoever mixed together. Couldn’t stand the mixture as it tasted horrible. Whiskey was ass, but the wine was okay. Since then, I’ve tried a few other wines, a hand full of different beer, a couple seltzers and malt liquors, a few meads, and plenty of other whiskey. I’ve found I don’t care much for American whiskey and Canadian is meh, but scotch/Irish/Japanese whiskeys? Love them. Proper 12, Sexton, Jameson(black barrel), Bushmills, Dallwhinnie, Highland Park, Nikka, Iwai, Hakata, Suntori, Dewar’s, Kern, Johnnie Walker, Macallan, Ardbeg… There’s been others, but those are ones I’ve found enjoyable. Again, maybe I’m weird, but I don’t like the feeling of being drunk. And it takes ~5-6 glasses before I start feeling buzzed, but I like just relaxing and drinking to enjoy the beverage.
