Review: Glenfiddich x Thierry Atlan Grand Cru Scotch Whisky-Infused Macarons

Holiday confections are getting started with a bang courtesy of Scotch maker Glenfiddich and world renowned New York City-based confectioner Thierry Atlan. The idea is simple: Take a and caramel-colored almond shells and fill it with white chocolate ganache that is infused with Glenfiddich 23 year old Grand Cru Scotch whisky plus “a beautiful harmony” of other flavors. I can’t argue with the results, which run through vanilla, coconut, white chocolate, and a fruity quality that Atlan revers to as “pear sorbet and white grape.” I think pear and green apple are closer to my experience. Best of all, the filling is not too sweet, and the shells have the perfect amount of crunch to add a little texture to each bite.

My sample box (12 cookies) was devoured nearly instantaneously at a recent dinner party — and do note that you need not be a whisky fan to enjoy them. That said, they pair wonderfully well with a glass of single malt, preferably Glenfiddish, preferably Grand Cru, should you have a few bottles sitting around. And if you don’t, well, they go down just gorgeously all the same.
