Drinking Beer below 5% ABV is like drinking fizzy water.

Sure, there are some tasty beers below 5%, but the common Bud Light/modelo/Miller Light/corona is basically like drinking water. Could be because I used to drink a fifth a day years ago when dealing with some intense mental issues, which I’m now getting treated for and drinking isn’t what turn to to cure my struggles. But damn, those weak beers taste like nothing and just bloat the stomach.

Last weekend while watching some college football with some buds, we decided to buy a 24 pack of Modelo (ABV 4.4%). I was drinking can after can, bloating further and further like the blueberry girl in Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. Might as well have been drinking sparkling water.

I love the taste of nearly every beer, even the cheap ‘American swill’ when chilled. So I get if a low ABV beer is paired with a nice greasy, tasty meal, like pizza, wings, or a burger. But being in Uni, I see all these low ABV getting chugged and I just question why the hell they’re putting their stomach through such astronomical bloat. If the goal is to get sloshed till sunrise, go for some liquor, wine, or strong, cheap beers. Or class it up with a nice craft Imperial IPA or even a cheap strong Imperial IPA. One pint of those and I’m satisfied. Wallet-wise and buzz-wise.

After a long day today, the $2 24oz IceHouse Edge at 8 % is just enough to unwind. If I had chosen Corona, I’d be paying more and drinking double the amount. The IceHouse tastes just as light. Crazy to me to go the route of chugging low ABV beers with the goal of getting wasted, but as the old saying goes: everyone is different.

Thoughts drunkards?
