Why don’t I feel shots of vodka unless it is mixed with something?

I can take several shots of vodka alone and I feel fine. It’s not unless I mix it with something (for example soda) or until I drink something else (i.e. a beer) that I feel the alcohol. Is there an explanation for this? Finding mixed answers online :p
