Why does strong liquor taste weak to me?

I rarely ever drink at all, but whenever I do and try different liquors and drinks they never seem to bother me. Strong drinks that have others say how it burns or tastes very strong and tastes unpleasant to them don’t taste bad to me and don’t burn my throat. I tried a strong liquor I was told was very strong and would burn, but to me it tasted weak. Is this just a taste bud thing? A gene? Can I just handle it better?
