Who knows that Jäger means Hunter?

Do Americans generally know this? And that Jägermeister means “Master of the Hunt”?

I’m asking because Europeans generally seem to know this, on some level or another. Either they know the meaning, or they know the drink is popular among hunters, or meant for bringing in flasks on trips to the woods, or both. Germans of course know the whole thing.

I remember growing up in Germany as a kid, and how men would talk about how nice it was with a flask of Jäger on a trip out into the woods, especially on crisp and cool days – late fall or early spring. And how the herbs in the drink would keep you from catching a cold. That’s where the whole “serving it cold” thing comes from, by the way.

I’m also asking because Jägermeister seems especially popular in conservative states where game is prolific and hunting a common past-time (like Germany). So culturally it just seems like they get it. With that deer-head and everything. But do they really, though? Just curious.
