Any former alcoholics now “casual drinkers”?
Hi all, This may be a slightly different post to what’s normally put on here as I’m new to the sub-reddit, so apologies if it’s slightly inappropriate. Basically I’ve fairly recently got sober after a 3 year binge every day. I’m now 63 days sober. I’ve posted on a couple of different alcohol sub-reddits, but because most of them are now stopping drinking forever, it’s slightly hard to get the responses I hope for at times when I ask certain questions.
Sorry, I’m rambling a bit. Long story short, I’m not looking to stop drinking forever. In fact I’d like to maybe in a couple of months time to drink again and bring back causal drinking, obviously not every day like I was doing before, but maybe the occasional weekend. Even prior to stopping drinking, my whole outlook on drinking and life as a whole changed. I never wanted to quit drinking forever, I just wanted to change my relationship with it. Trouble is with other sub-reddits I’ve posted on, people normally reply saying that it would be a bad idea to try bringing drinking back in just based on their experiences because they failed and weren’t able to do it, and just went back to drinking every day again. I do not think I’m better than these people by any means, but do genuinely believe my situation is different and this is something I’d personally be able to do without falling back in to old ways.
I had a few people on those sub-reddits say to me that they were able to become causal drinkers again, but due to the nature of the sub-reddit basically now being anti alcohol, these comments were very few and far between. So I’m just wondering if any one on this has been able to go from a Former alcoholic to now a casual drinker? If so, after how long of being sober did you first have a casual drinking session again?
